As Team USA prepares for their latest challenge for a gold medal, they will not need to be doing too much research into their opponent as they have now faced off against each other 3 times in the past 3 weeks(the first time, being an exhibition game, and the 2nd being just a few days ago in pool play.) There is plenty of bad blood between these two teams and that became evident in their last game as Carmelo Anthony believed he was hit with a cheap shot by point guard Facundo Campazzo. Campazzo was doing that in retaliation of a cheap shot he believed he recieved from USA’s Chris Paul. Argentina has shown they have been able to keep up longer than many other national teams, but of course they were done in with a 3rd quarter scoring barrage by USA.
There is not one team that can get into a shoot-out with Team USA and win. The only way to win is to keep the score low, and that would be by playing solid defense. If Argentina wants hints, then they could just check out the USA- Lithuania game where USA nearly got stunned. Of course, that is easier said than done as USA has far too many offensive threats that they can not be stopped, just simply need to be contained.
The way USA will come away with a victory would be to come out early and get into their scoring groove. If they demoralize Argentina early on, they should not have difficulty winning. However, the longer they allow Argentina to hang around, the more they will become confident that they could win. USA needs to come out and show the world we are the real deal. If Team USA comes away with the victory, that would be their 3rd straight victory over Argentina and would guarantee them no worse than a silver medal.
Tip off is Friday August 10th 4 pm eastern time (9 pm local time) . USA USA!!
