Saltalamacchia snubbed of All-Star team selection

Sunday- Watching the All-Star selection show on TBS I was really hoping for another Red Sox player to join David Ortiz on the team. I patiently waited to see the American League starters and the National League starters but I was really waiting to see the reserves. It immediately hit me once I saw Joe Maur get selected as an All-Star I was in outrage! Jerrod Saltalamacchia clearly deserved the nod as an All-Star. Joe Maur was only named to the team because of his Head & Shoulders commercial and his name alone. I agree with Matt Weiters getting the nod because of his tremendous play for the Baltimore Orioles and their current winning record. I’m not thrilled with Mike Napoli getting the starting job over Weiters and I’m really upset with Texas Rangers dominating the roster. Boston has 3 legitimate players that should be on the All-Star team in Kansas City on July 10th those players are Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Scott Atchison, Mike Aviles all lead their respective positions in categories that can’t be ignored. Aviles leads all shortstops in RBIs and Doubles. Atchison leads all relievers in ERA, and just has been an amazing pitcher to come and get the job done. Saltalamacchia leads all catchers in HRs and is truly having an All-Star year and on pace to beat Red Sox team record homeruns by a catcher. Joe Maur has 4 Home Runs and gets in.

This is why I’m very disgusted with All-Star games with fan popularity. The true gems and real All-Stars are snubbed off the list and don’t get the legitimate shot to play in this important mid-season game. It’s a complete joke that Texas Rangers send 8 players to the All-Star game because their manager is All-Star coach, open your eyes to the true talent that is taking place this year and allow those players the glamour. I’m glad Ortiz received his ticket to the All-Star game and I believe the Sox should give him any amount of money he wants for Free-Agency.
