Flashback Friday: Fenway Park turns 100!

Today is the 100th birthday of the greatest baseball field ever… Fenway Park! Unfortunately the Sox didn’t really have the ending they wanted though losing 6-2 to the New York Yankees. The Yankees actually are the first team that the Red Sox played in Fenway Park, at the time they were called the New York Highlanders though. The first game went to 11 innings with the Sox pulling the win out 7-6. Sadly there wasn’t much coverage in the local papers that day due to the recent sinking of the Titanic. Another interesting fact about the first game at Fenway is that it was actually supposed to be played on the 18th of April, due to heavy rains the game was pushed back till the 20th which is now the anniversary. With that being said here is a pretty interesting video from the local ABC station WCVB 5. The clip is from the yesterday during the open house of Fenway. The team opened its doors to its loyal fans for free reign of the ballpark. By the way many people don’t know that as of today Fenway Park is the first and only stadium to make it to 100 years old! Just goes to show ya that Red Sox Nation is still going strong after 100 years… LONG LIVE FENWAY!

I think the cardboard cutouts really add to the appeal of the outfield walls… Whose idea was that? lol

Thanks for REACTING with us and come back tomorrow!
