Sox Over The Hump

The sweet swing of Big Papi has gotten the Sox back on track.
It appears that early season hangover is finally starting to wear off.
Despite a recent series loss to the Twins in Minnesota, the Red Sox have finally reached the .500 plateau. Now at 20-20, Boston heads home to face Detroit in a rematch of last year’s ALCS. The three-game set kicks off with a marquee pitching matchup, with Jon Lester slated to face last year’s Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer. The Tigers currently boast the best record in the American League at 24-12, so securing two-of-three won’t be an easy task. But with the Sox coming off victories in three of their last four series, it seems the team is heating up at just the right time.
It’s been a combination of solid play in all three facets of the game, with the pitching giving quality start after quality start, the defense holding up behind them, and the offense providing the run support. David Ortiz has been the catalyst offensively, compiling an eight-game hitting streak that included an 8-for-14, four-homer performance against his former team. With the hitting streak, Big Papi has upped his average to a modest .303, leading the team in that category as well as home runs (11) and RBIs (25). When he’s on, the entire offense is on, and with warmer weather knocking at the back door, it would appear as if the stage is set for Ortiz to continue his dominance of opposing pitchers. And with Papi hot and their pitching locked in, the Sox seem poised to make a little noise.

I’m a 23-year-old who graduated from the Connecticut School of Broadcasting last January and will hopefully be earning a Bachelor’s of Arts in Journalism from the University of New Hampshire by the conclusion of 2014, finishing up my remaining credits at the Community College of Rhode Island due to past financial complications. I am setting my sights on the copywriting field as I’ve become somewhat of a “grammar nazi” as a result of my time spent as a Journalism major, yet I’m keeping my options open if opportunities in journalism present themselves. I still hope to someday be involved in the sports media field in some capacity. Basically, this blog is geared toward expressing opinions and insight on all four major sports teams in the New England area, namely the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics, and Bruins. Besides simply sharing my personal thoughts and analysis, I’d like to make this site open to public opinion as well and encourage sports conversations to take place amongst visitors to the site.
