As we come out of the NBA All-Star break, there is not much time before the trade deadline occurs (Thursday afternoon at 3pm). While many teams are struggling to find out which missing piece they need to complete a championship run, or what pieces they are willing to dump for the future, the Boston Celtics appear to be in good shape. At 19-35, championship aspirations seem to be a long-shot, but they do not need to be in a fire-sale mode either, unless the price is right.

The reason for so much flexibility at the deadline is due to the amount of salary already dumped, starting in the offseason and then in the regular season with the dealing of Courtney Lee as well as Jordan Crawford and MarShon Brooks deals. The only real albatross on the books that remains is Gerald Wallace’s remaining two years (beyond this season) at 1o million per. With Chris Humphries’ contract up at the end of the year, the Celtics are in otherwise excellent financial shape to make moves in free agency.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a trade deadline if it did not include Rajon Rondo trade rumors. Reportedly, the Celtics are looking for TWO first-round picks (unprotected) and potentially a young player, with the possibility of dumping another salary as well. I think it is safe to say that Rondo will be here for at least the remainder of the season given the extremely high asking price.

Two names that we could see moved are Brandon Bass and Jeff Green, as both have gathered interest throughout the rest of the league. I personally would hate to see Green leave as I believe he can be a big part of this team’s future in the coming seasons, especially if Rondo leaves at some point in the next year. Let us know what you would like to see the Celtics do as the deadline approaches.
