Crisp and Arroyo Sign

Coco Crisp (top) and Bronson Arroyo (bottom) brought a must-win attitude to the Sox day-in and day-out.

It wasn’t that long ago when the likes of Bronson Arroyo and Coco Crisp were “rockin’ out” in laid-back Sox clubhouses and laying it all on the line for the team. Each were essential in bringing Boston a championship, Arroyo in ’04 and Crisp in ’07, with Bronson’s mound presence commanding opposing hitters and Coco’s defense in center making it almost impossible to secure a hit. They have since left the team, and now they have something else in common: freshly-inked deals.

Late Friday afternoon, Crisp signed a two-year contract extension with the Oakland A’s with a vesting option for 2017; Arroyo likewise signed a two-year deal, being picked up as a free agent by the Arizona Diamondbacks after spending the last eight years in Cincinnati with an option for 2016. Crisp, meanwhile, has been with the A’s for the past four seasons, so it comes as no surprise that the team re-signed him given his ability on the base paths and in the field. Both are well past their primes, with Arroyo set to turn 37 and Crisp on the verge of 34, but still have a couple decent years left in them. It will be intriguing to see if the two earn their contracts starting this season.
